Why JDownloader Is Better Than IDM?

For years I am the one who believe that IDM (Internet Download Manager) is the best parallel download solution. Using that IDM for everything including download videos from youtube and any other flv (automatic detection), downloads via rapidshare, megaupload, mediafire and more. So, with so many trusted years, I believe IDM is the one and only the best among all.

However for now, everything has changed. Despite of so active internal updates from IDM, found out JDownloader (free open source) promise me with some new features.

JDownloader has all in-build features similar to IDM with some interesting additions including downloading in multiple paralell streams, captcha recognition, automatical file extraction, allow link encryption pasting, and import CCF, RSDF and the new DLC files. The catch is, JDownloader was written/ constructed using Java.

JDownloder requires you to prior install Java Runtime Enviroment (jre/jdk) 1.5 or higher.

  4. Don't say that IDM is the best, IDM is very friendly uses, IDM does not work with DLC file which Jdownloader did. Therefore stick with what ever fit and work for you.

  6. The problem that I had with JDdownloader is it slow loading and tends to be heavy on resources for an already old PC...
    just trying to open it up by clicking the icon in the desktop took about 15 minutes..!
    in comparison IDM just take seconds and often its automatic...

  10. I use JDownloader for serveral years and- for me- seems to ofer exactly what I asked;
    However- the it`s a free market- so anyone can have what he needed;
    OF course JD ask for some knowleges in computer ( at least to understand what exactly the button /task is doing; As somebody says - is not as friendly as the IDM is ( probably his target is the persons with somo mere abillities in computers science than just "user")

  15. How do you massdownload picture in IDM? I normally go through image boards and do rghtclick+a (copy link location) or rightclick+o (copy image location) in firefox and when I'm done I go to JD and do CTRL+a and combine all picture to a package and let them download into a folder.
    IDM opens a seperate prompt for every single picture....The only workaround I could find is pasting every single link to a file then import all links at the same time...which is a pain in the butt.
    So for now I'm back to JD, even though it's a little buggy at times.
    I've been searching for a good alternative forever, but can't find one!

  16. Choose what the best for your need. For me file size is the matter. Need the best downloader for the large file size and I prefer IDM.

  19. When downloading at 99.99% it says corrupt data, Damn the IDM which I have used for 3-4years. Gonna try JDownloader.

    DAMN THE IDM I DOWNLOADED SAME FILE 4 TIMES BUT IDM IS ALWAYS READY WITH SAME RESPONSE CORRUPT DATA.

    DAMN IT DAMN IT.

  21. oke so, I went to nvidia driver and downloaded the lasted drivers from there cuz they have imba servers, so, with JD max speed was 1.401 MB/s and with IDM 1.607 MB/s ..before starting to download with JD, I used CCleaner and same with IDM. *SECOND TEST* Download video of 1.52GB from youtube. JD speed between 1.355MB/s and 722KB/s. IDM same video with speeds between 1.502MB/s & 1.227. I'm not a fan or something, but I just find out about this JD and i've heard ppl saying that it may be faster than IDM. But for me, my system, my speed, it is not.

    1. wow..1.607MB/s...
      are u from the past??? haha

      i dont know why i get 60MB/s for same 1.7GBfile with JD and 57MB/s for same file on IDM.

      i think its up to user setting..usually user who update frequently the JD get the best speed. the cons part for JD is the program is a bit complicated and so many update (haha since open source i dont mind that). user with slow internet speed will more prefer IDM. unfortunate not all will buy the original IDM.
